STD Testing Clinic

If you are sexually active and have had more than one partner, or if your partner has had more than one partner, it may be a good idea to get STD testing. Once you have the results – and possibly the relief you need – you can know whether or not treatment is needed. Getting tested will not only help protect you, but it may also protect others.

Uncertainty

It is believed that many people today have STD’s. It can be a serious problem because many people are not aware of it. Getting STD testing can give you assurance that you do not have one, or it can help you get the treatment you need for a cure.

The Questions

Determining the type of tests you may need will be based on how you answer questions about your sexual practices. You will be asked about multiple partners, whether or not you practice safe sex, and the type of sex you engage in.

You can also expect to be asked about your partner or partners, and whether you have used shared needles for drugs or not. You will also be asked if you have ever had forced sex.

Symptoms

The presence of symptoms of any kind will also be tested. If there are genital sores, for instance, samples will need to be taken.

The Test

All that is needed in an STD test is that you provide a blood and a urine sample. This means that it will only take a few minutes of your time at the Silver Star Urgent Care center. Other tests will be necessary if you are showing any symptoms of an STD. In that case, a genital exam will be necessary.

In most cases, you will get the results within two or three days. You will need to return in order to get them.

When Should You Be Tested

Testing for STD’s is usually not needed if both partners have only had one partner. If there are multiple partners, or if you have had unprotected sex, it may be a good idea to be tested – just to be on the safe side. Women who either are pregnant or planning to get pregnant should also be tested.

Treatment will be necessary if a test reveals that you have an STD. The sooner it is treated, often with anti-biotics, the more you protect your own health. A number of STD’s are easily treatable – but you have to know that they are present before they can be treated.
